Caring for Creation
"Taking seriously our charge to care for God’s world."
In Genesis 2:15 human beings are placed in the world that God has made to “care for it”. It’s the first task we were given by God, and one which throughout history God’s people have sought to take seriously. However, in an age of ever increasing consumerism and the advancement of technology, God’s people are struggling to find their place within this role again. We might think that this problem is too big for us – what difference can I make – surely me helping when this is an international issue is like me turning up at an earthquake site with a dustpan and brush! Yes this is about making a difference, even a small one, but it’s a actually much MUCH bigger than that. It’s about Kingdom Living and how we take seriously God’s oldest call on our lives.
In this section of the site you will find some things that will challenge you with the scale of the task we face today, but also some really practical things that you can do to make a real difference. It’s about serving God by caring for his world, our home, so in a world of consumerism that drives us to rely on things that destroy our planet, the words of Joshua should ring true to us;
“If serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose today who you will serve...but as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
