Haywards Heath Baptist Church

A church at the heart of town and community

Tips

1. Replace your normal light bulb with an energy efficient one.

Energy efficient bulbs use up to 60% less energy in the home and save on average 300lbs of carbon per year.

2. Choose energy efficient appliances.

If every home in the country bought A+ appliances, we could save up to 75 million lbs of carbon per year.

3. Use less hot water.

If you wash your clothes in a warm wash (30 degrees) instead of a hot wash then this will save up to 500lbs of carbon per year.

4. Use a washing line instead of a tumble dryer whenever possible.

If you did this for just 6 months of the year then you could save 700lbs of carbon per year.

5. Turn off electric devices when you aren't using them.

Simply turning off your TV, your DVD player, Stereo and computer when you're not using them will save thousands of pounds of carbon per year.

6. Unlug electronics from the wall when you are not using them.

Even when turned off, things like hairdryers, mobile phone chargers and Tv's use energy. In fact, the energy used to keep clock displays lit and memory chips working amounts to 5% of your annual domestic energy consumption and spews 18 Million tons of carbon into the atmosphere every year.

7. Recycle more!

You can save 2,400lbs of carbon per year by recycling just half of your household waste.

8. Drive Less!

Walk, cycle, lift-share or use public transport. You'll save 1lb of carbon for ever mile you dont drive. Also, if we lift-share on the way to church then we could drastically reduce our churches carbon footprint as well as save money on petrol over the year.

9. Check your tyres.

Whilst talking about driving, did you know that by keeping your tyres properly inflated you can improve your mileage by more than 3%. Every litre of petrol saved will save 5lbs of carbon.

10. Here's a crazy idea, if you can - plant a tree!

A tree will absorb 1 ton of carbon over its lifetime.
